What a difference it makes to finally have a proper sophisticated studio setup that I now have to use to in order to properly capture pack shot product photography. I have always had to ‘make a plan’ in the past in order to achieve the best results but now having our own studio setup at the Churchill Studio, it has so improved my image capture of smaller product.
This was particularly evident in the initial response from the client whereby the response was very positive in the first presentation of the imagery. Photographing liquor bottles is usually so difficult because they are so reflective in all directions so it is a matter of balancing those reflections or if possible eradicating them completely, in order to show the bottle in its best possible light. Notice how the first image on the left of the St Crusade bottle is so much better than the one to the right with the double shot of brandy due to the slight flaring of the backlight over the right side of the bottle – there is also better translucence in the liquid area of the bottle and more contrast on the label due to improved lighting. I have included this last image on the right specifically to show how precise the capture of liquor bottles needs to be.
