Ah the Umhlanga beachfront – how it has captured my imagination over the years. Different aspects of this area of Durban’s coastline just seem to come alive in various lighting conditions and it also varies from season to season too. I think the new whale pier that has been added to conceal a waste water outlet was not only very clever but also a beautifully abstract addition to the beach area. This pier is situated directly below the amazing new Pearls luxurious apartments towering over the Umhlanga beaches.
I have captured 2 different perspectives of both the lighthouse and pier with fairly long 30 second exposures at ISO 100. Both shots were set at F13 to maximize the visual focus of the scene. Post processing done in Adobe Bridge. These pictures below can be ordered from Grant Pitcher as wall art for interior décor purposes. Contact me for further detail or view more in my shop section.

Great photos Grant, a highlight to my day so far. You turned a unfortunate moment into a great opportunity, well done.
Oh wow – these photos are amazing!!
Grant…. WOW…. looks amazing… I think its really great that you show your settings, as this gives me hope that I may too one day take a shot that may look half as good as these 😉 Thanks for the tips along the way!
Cool, thanks Brad and everyone else for the compliments on these images. Just loved taking the opportunity available to me!
After my elderly mom and family enjoyed a wonderful holiday at Breakers Resort , the high lights being evening walks, I would dearly like to surprise my mom by presenting her a poster size photograph of the board walk ie from Breakers Resort to the light house. Is there a suitable photograph covering this wonderful stretch of coast line which could be use in a poster size blow up for wall mounting purposes?
